Check out our new classes! CHAYON RYU MARTIAL ARTS CLASSWith Instructor Jane Reinoso starts on Thursday, May 24 th from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. Literally meaning “ the natural way ,” this type of martial arts blends Tae-kwon Do, Hapkido, Kung-Fu, and Shudokan Karate into a course that uses natural body movements to promote health, longevity, and overall well-being while teaching self-defense skills. Cost for the six-week session including instruction is $60. If you refer a friend, a discount will be given. Class space is limited so make sure to register early! OIL & ACRYLICS CLASS AT OPPORTUNITY HOUSEThe Opportunity House offers a six-week course in beginner to intermediate oil and acrylics painting on Mondays from 12:00pm to 3:00pm. The course will cover techniques that include blending colors, brush techniques, and perspective. Each six-week session will cover a new genre of inspiration. A supply list for the course is kept at the front desk of the Opportunity House. Cost for the six-week session including instruction is $85 and $70 for Opportunity House members. ARTIST STUDIO TIME AT THE OPPORTUNITY HOUSEThe Opportunity House offers studio time on Fridays from 9am to 1pm for local artists. The time is directed at students who are looking for an inexpensive place to come work on their art while being able to meet with other artists looking for the same. Fees for the studio are $40 per month. PAPER MACHE CLASSES AT THE OPPORTUNITY HOUSEThe Opportunity House is offering a course in Paper Mache art on Tuesday evenings from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. This course is designed to instruct students on the art of this unique style of paper crafting in order to make statues, masks, and other decorative pieces. The class will focus on techniques used for project construction and students will complete a decorated piece. We are looking for students to start up this new and exciting class! Cost for the six-week session including instruction is $85 and $70 for Opportunity House members. KNITTING CLASSES AT THE OPPORTUNITY HOUSEThe Opportunity House is also offering a five-week course in Knitting on Fridays from 3pm to 5pm. The class offers instruction on how to get started with basic knitting procedures and moves to more intermediate patterns. The cost of the class is $50 for five-weeks and students need to bring in size 8 knitting needles. GUERILLA QUILTING CLASSES AT THE OPPORTUNITY HOUSEGet the basics of sewing a quilt top, to quilting the final project. The class seeks to provide non-judgmental training, in an easygoing atmosphere. The first classes will provide an understanding of color, types of patterns and quality of fabric that work best with the novices first project. We are looking for students to start up this new and exciting class! Date to be determined.
