Welcome to
Hendersonville, N.C.
Opportunity House is a membership-based, non-profit organization that provides opportunities for participation in cultural, social, educational and recreational endeavors for all.
It seeks to improve the community by providing the means for adults to remain active, continue to learn, stay vigorous in mind and body and to share their skills, knowledge and capabilities with others. All age groups are welcome. A range of membership levels exists. Individuals need not be members in order to take classes or
participate in many activities, however.
Opportunity House was founded by retirees in 1958 in the basement of a local church. These retirees were interested in exercising and sharing their interest in arts and crafts. Classes in several different media were organized, and some were intergenerational.
As the organization grew, larger facilities were needed. The vacated building of a former A&P grocery store on U.S. 25 north of downtown Hendersonville, N.C., just north of N.C. 191, was purchased in the 1980s and is the present location.
We invite those interested to visit us. A tour may be arranged, particularly if an appointment is made in advance: Call (828) 692-0575.
